My Closest Collaboration with Adébáyọ̀ Fálétí – VIDEO

My most productive collaboration yet resulted in the emergence of the three musketeers of the Yoruba sector of Nollywood in Dr Larinde Akinleye (late), Prof Akinwumi Isola and Alàgbà Adébáyọ̀ Fálétí. The trio traversed Oleku, Saworoide, Thunderbolt (Magun), Agogo-eewo and Campus Queen elevating them to star status. However, my closest moments with Adébáyọ̀ Fálétí was on the production of the documentary film ARUGBÁ which was researched and written by him. This time I had time to relate with him as a team player and was amazed by his meticulous preparation to travelling or journeys! On one occasion when we picked him up from his Ibadan home, he packed everything you could not imagine for a short trip of one week. For instance, he had several cups and spoons to spare for thoughtless travelers like me, a tea drinker who carried no thermo or tea cup. Alàgbà brought atare, orógbo, obì, honey, lemon, lime and the list appeared endless. Two days on arrival, we lived like kings on home fried peppered meat prepared and packed in large tin by his dear wife! In his company, creating was fun and a happy experience which did not recognize any discrimination in age or status in the creative community. The sage received all with open arms and a big heart. He touched so many souls who are willing to testify to his legacy in the Art Community.
It is therefore not surprising that a befitting burial is planned in celebration of one of the greatest legends that emerged from Yorubaland.
